The Washington metropolitan area is the metropolitan area centered on Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. The area includes all of the federal district and parts of the U.S. states of Maryland and Virginia, along with a small portion of West Virginia.

The Washington metropolitan area is the most educated and, by some measures, the most affluent metropolitan area in the United States. As of the 2012 U.S. Census Bureau estimate, the population of the Washington metropolitan area was estimated to be 5,860,342, making it the largest metropolitan area in the Census' Southeast region and the seventh-largest metropolitan area in the country.

Successful Negotiations at NASA Headquarters & DOT / FAA Buildings in Washington DC Amounting to 11% to 13% wage increases in the first years of the contracts

September 27, 2017

Over the last few weeks the LEOSU-DC was very busy negotiating contracts on behalf of the security professionals working at both NASA Headquarters, Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration.  LEOSU-DC Organizing Director and lead negotiator Steve Maritas delivered on his promises to get the highest wage percentage possible in the Washington DC region, which included an across the board wage increase of 5% in the first years of their contracts as well as having a portion of their H&W money paid in cash. Overall the LEOSU-DC was able to negotiate a total package that included increases between 11 to 13% total increases just in the first year of the contracts in addition to yearly wage & H&W  increases over the next three years, pension increases and stronger language protection. We like to thank all of the bargaining committee members Jesse Rager and Franklin Hill NASA Headquarters, Reagan McFadden and Jonathan Miller FAA/DOT as well as the company representatives from both Diversified Protection Corporation (DPC) and Quality Investigation, Inc. (QI) who stood their ground while addressing the needs and concerns of our members. View negotiation photos for NASA here and FAA & DOT here.
